Properties Determined:

1. Neutral Salt Spray (NSS): This test measures the ability of protective coatings and other materials to withstand general corrosion and therefore most appropriate for application on paints, coatings, and metals.

2. Acetic Acid Salt Spray (ASS): Broadly used for components that are exposed to moderately acidic solutions, this test is especially employed in the automotive industry for testing the corrosion resistance of typical Auto ‘bod y’ panels and fasteners.

3. Copper Accelerated Acetic Acid Salt Spray (CASS): This advanced test is especially important for materials used in demanding conditions such as corrosion study of aerospace materials and corrosion of aluminum materials.

4. Humidity Corrosion Analysis: This test is equivalent to 95% relative humidity and temperature of 40°C to 50°C in reheating and assessing materials’ ability to resist steady-state moisture pick up.

Range of Capacity:

We are equipped with different chambers for exacting test under properly regulated conditions. These chambers simulate corrosive environments with exacting accuracy:

Chamber 1: Best used on small parts (1000 mm × 700mm × 700mm).

Chamber 2: Best used on medium size parts that have a dimension of 1200mm × 700mm x 700mm in this case.

Chamber 3: Designed for large samples (1200 x 900 x 900).

Intergranular Corrosion (IGC) Testing.

The intergranular corrosion tests proved to be valuable in assessing the performance level of structures and hence relevant in precision based industries. Properties Determined:

1. Step, Dual, or Ditch Structure Classification: Using oxalic acid etching (Practice-A), it is possible to evaluate microstructures to define intergranular corrosion sensitivity.

2. Corrosion Rate Measurements:

120 Hours (Practice-B): Used to assess the performances of materials under regulation, compressed testing timeframe.

240 Hours (5 cycles of 48 hours, Practice-C): Used to mimic conditions of short-term corrosive exposure and also for testing long-term corrosion features. 

3. Macro Examination: Macroscopic examination of bent specimens which involves use of low power microscopes to determine degree of corrosion penetration (5X-20X). A number of test procedures that have been used are boiling in copper sulphate and in sulphuric acid for duration of 15- 120hrs (Practices E & F).
