Packing material overall migration test
All packaging
materials of plastic origin shall pass the prescribed overall migration limit
of 60 mg/kg or 10 mg/dm2 when tested as per IS 9845 with no visible colour
migration based on the selection of suitable food contact simulants & under
simulated test conditions that are appropriate for the intended use and depends
upon the type of food to be packed as per Food Safety and Standards (Packaging)
Regulations, 2018. Plastic materials and articles shall not release the
substances in quantities exceeding the specific migration limits (mg/Kg) for
Barium, Cobalt, Copper, Iron, Lithium, Manganese and Zinc prescribed by FSSAI
regulations and Phthalates, PFAS, bis-phenols as per other countries
regulations.
